Brought to us by The Broke and the Bookish!

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is to talk about the ten completed series that we have not yet finished.

And here we go!

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

Well kind of. I read the original three books, but I haven’t read the Heir, which starts the second story arc set in the same world as The Selection. I didn’t love The Selection series and so haven’t quite gotten around to reading The Heir, though curiosity will undoubtedly have me reading it eventually!

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

This series came highly recommended to me, and I do enjoy the Dystopian genre, but I just could not get into this series. I finished Shatter Me but didn’t feel compelled to read the next two in the series. I just wasn’t hooked, for some reason. I’m not sure if it had to do with the writing style, or the characters, or the plot, but something just didn’t work for me. I don’t think I’ll ever read them, so I just checked the wiki to see what happened in the end lol

The Divergent Series by Veronica Roth

I read Divergent and Insurgent, but then I was accidentally spoiled about what happens in Allegiant and I couldn’t bring myself to read it. I do not appreciate those kinds of twists in my series books, so once I saw the spoiler, it kind of killed the series for me. It’s my own fault for reading amazon reviews though, I suppose lol. I don’t think I’ll ever read it, but I might see the movie. I absolutely adore the first book Divergent, though and I can still enjoy re-reading that one if I pretend its the only book in the series lol. I wasn’t impressed with the direction the books took after Divergent. It felt a bit like the author was trying to be shocking or different.

Matched trilogy by Allie Condie

I read Matched, but again, wasn’t compelled to read the following books in this trilogy. There wasn’t anything really that I didn’t like about the series, I just felt sort of “meh” about it, generally. It’s not that I’m completely opposed to series revolving around a love triangle, but the whole lot really just felt like a vehicle for a love triangle story, rather than a story that includes a love triangle. I think I prefer when the book’s main plot points go deeper than just “which guy will she choose.” The only trilogy I’ve read that I really adored, which had a love triangle, was Hunger Games. And thats probably because the love triangle is not an important part of the story.

The Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater

I read and adored the Raven Boys Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, so I thought I’d love her Wolves of Mercy Falls series as well, but I just didn’t click with it. I think it mostly had to do with the “insta-love” between the characters, because I actually did like the mythology of the wolves. But if a sort is going to be mostly about a romance, I prefer to get to see the romance unfold over the course of the first book, at least. When the love is so “insta” it doesn’t leave much else to the story for me. I don’t think I’ll ever finish this series.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor

I read and loved the first book, Daughter of Smoke & Bone (check out my review) but somehow I haven’t gotten around to finishing the trilogy yet. I expect that I will at some point, though, because I quite liked the first book!

The Southern Vampire Mysteries (Sookie Stackhouse) by Charlaine Harris

Screen Shot 2015-08-22 at 9.54.22 PM

Ok, here is an adult series for my list! I read every single Sookie Stackhouse novel in this series, except for the last one. The books were excellent in the beginning, and continued to be pretty good for a while. But the last two books were getting a little bit “meh” and once again I accidentally spoiled myself for the last book. After I read the spoilers I couldn’t bring myself to read the final book. If I don’t read it, then I can pretend it didn’t happen, and pretend it ends the way I wish it had lol!

  1. I hope you’ll enjoy The Heir when you get to it. I quite liked the story, but hated the main character. And I never finished the Sookie Stackhouse series either! I think I’ve yet to read the last two books. Should really get to that as well. Also, your list reminds me that I have to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone soon. Great list 🙂

  2. Great choices! I understand that you couldn’t get into Shatter Me. I did, and I absolutely loved this series, but I think that the writing style is either love, or hate. There’s no in between. 🙂
I felt the same way about Matched, I didn’t feel like reading the other books, because they didn’t leave me a big impression. 🙂

  3. I felt the same way about Matched! It had a lot of potential with the world and I thought it might have gone somewhere good but the protag spent so much time trying to deal with her love triangle that I got turned off to the series entirely.

And yeah, the Allegiant ending was pretty sad. I didn’t have as much a problem with it, surprisingly, but there was a lot of repetition with plot, which was kind of annoying.

And I so want to read the Shatter Me series!

  4. I get why you’ve not read Allegiant and if I had seen the spoilers before reading the book I probably wouldn’t have read it. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series is very high on my to be completed list. Great list.

  5. I’ve technically finished the Sookie Stackhouse books, but there’s a book of short stories that gives added information about what happens after the last book that I haven’t read. I may get to it someday.

  6. I feel the same about the Divergent series. Loved the first book, but then Insurgent got a bit complicated and it felt very different to the first book, somehow… I’ve got a copy of Allegiant now though, so I might as well finish the series, but I’m not as compelled as I was with trilogies like The Hunger Games. 🙂

  7. I absolutely with you on Allegiant! I haven’t read it yet and friends keep telling that I’m going to hate the ending or be shocked. Now I’m thinking if I should read it at all. I’m also on the same page for the southern vampire series – I think I ended up having the last two or three books left and didn’t up finishing them. I just looked up what happened at the end. Great list!

  8. It sad that Shatter Me didn’t worked out for you. I haven’t read Allegiant yet so I’m always on alert to avoid the spoilers. I haven’t read The selection but I’m planning to binge read it someday. Great List BTW! 😀

  9. The Divergent series is on my list too, although I’m just lazy and haven’t finished it, I’m lucky because I haven’t had it spoiled (yet). I own “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” but I just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet, from what you’ve said I think I’ll move it up my TBR. Also I’ve been looking forward to reading the Sookie Stackhouse books for a looong time (since I watched True Blood) and I’m glad to hear you enjoyed them!

    • I really did like the first two books in the series and I might still give the third a try sometime! Daughter of smoke and bone was good, the best part was that you never really knew what direction it was taking, it was different from the standard fantasy set up which was a nice change. The Sookie books are really good, especially the earliest ones, but they are very VERY different from TrueBlood lol!

  10. The only good part about Allegiant was the twist at the end. I thought the entire book was awful and thoroughly enjoyed how it ended with the way Veronica Roth took the story. It was a good series at the start and just went completely wrong, which is sad because it could have been really good.
