A little bit about Don’t Shush Me…
Hello there! Thanks for visiting Don’t Shush Me! (DSM), where the focus is all about you, the Young Adult (or Young at Heart Adult) reader. DSM is a way to introduce you guys to some of the books I’ve read and enjoyed. I’ll do that by posting reviews and “book talks” for various books, from all different genres. The majority of the book reviews will be Young Adult and/or New Adult, but I’m also going to chat about the adult books I read, which are mostly Paranormal, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Romance. I’ll also include “extras” relating to that book, its author, or the themes that you might also like to explore. Since this is all about you, I’d love to hear from you guys about some genres, authors, or even specific books you’d like me to cover! I’m so looking forward to getting to know all of you, and for you all to get to know me through the books I love! Welcome, welcome!
Here is a Quick Key for the site and how I categorize the books
- Young Adult (YA):
- Young Adult books are those that are written with the intended audience of teenagers. The intended audience can range anywhere from 12-18 generally. Usually one of the main protagonists are aged between 12-18 when the stories start. These range in genre, theme, and content quite spectacularly. Many people of all ages enjoy reading YA books.
- New Adult (NA) :
- This is a newer genre, and in a way it’s an offshoot of YA. This is for the more mature young adult, generally those between the ages of about 18-25. The protagonist is generally going to be between this age range. The protagonist may deal with issues common to that age group, including leaving home, developing career/education/life goals, developing sexuality and/or identity. NA also spans a wide variety of genre, theme, and content.
- Everything else, pretty much! If categorized as “adult” on this site, it may contain more advanced sexual content than YA or NA books.
I also always use tags at the bottom of each post. They may give you a greater idea of what kind of content the book includes. As always, enjoy your books!
A little about me…
My name is Kelsey Bogan and I’m a librarian-to-be, currently in the process of getting my Master of Library and Information Science degree, with my Pennsylvania School Librarian teaching certification at Drexel University. I adore reading, literacy, and all things technology related. I think the school library should be a safe place for students to be, as well as to learn, think, create, and try.
